Frequently Asked Questions 1. Is Osteopathy covered by private health insurance? Most private health insurance funds cover Osteopathy under the “extras” section. The amount claimed varies depending on your company and level of cover. Box Hill Complete Health and Caulfield Natural Health Clinic also provides a HICAPS facility, which allows you to claim your treatment on the spot and you won’t need to go into a branch to claim. 2. is Osteopathy covered by Veteran Affairs, Work Cover and TAC? Yes. We provide 100% cover for DVA, WorkCover and TAC patients. You will need to bring your DVA, WorkCover or TAC claim/file number to your first treatment. Please contact us for more information. 3. How many treatments will I need? This depends on the extent and severity of your in jury or discomfort. Some patients only need 2 treatments, whereas others will need 10 or more if they have had a serious injury. We need to assess you to be able to estimate the number of treatments required. Contact us to find out about our FREE ASSESSMENTS. 4. Does treatment have to involve spinal or joint manipulation? We are qualified, experienced, and safe practitioners who have performed many manipulative techniques and resulted in a positive outcome. However, if you do not feel comfortable with manipulation please let us know, and there are a wide range of very gentle techniques that are available. 5. Is treatment covered by Medicare? Osteopathic treatment is only covered by Medicare under the EPC plan for chronic conditions when referred by your GP. To find out whether you qualify for this, you must speak to your GP. 6. Do I have to claim at a branch of my insurance company? Box Hill Complete Health and Caulfield Natural Health Clinic have HICAPS facilities available, which means that you are able to claim on the spot if you have your membership card with you. This means that you do not need to go into your insurance company to claim. 7. Is Osteopathy safe for babies and children? Osteopathy is extremely gentle, calming and soothing, making it suitable for babies and children. For more information on what we can do for your baby or child, please see our Osteopathy and Children section. 8. Do I need a referral? Osteopaths are primary health care practitioners, which means that a referral is not required. However, if you are claiming DVA (Veteran Affairs) payments or Medicare under the EPC plan, then a referral from a GP is required. 9. Will I be sore after treatment? The reactions to treatment vary from person to person. Immediately after treatment, some patients may feel drowsy and tired for the rest of the day, then feel great the day after. Others may feel fine on the day, but will be sore the next day. Either way, it is perfectly normal. Your tissues would be inflamed from the treatment and may take a couple of days to settle down, especially if you have never had manual treatment before. To prevent this from occurring, we recommend that you drink lots of water after treatment, and rub some anti-inflammatory gel on the area. 10. What is the difference between Osteopathy and Chiropractic? Osteopathy and Chiropractic are often confused, but the 2 professions have different training, registration boards and philosophies. It would be best to speak to a chiropractor if you would like more information about their profession. If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. |
