Sinusitis, Cold and Flu

COMMON COLD AND FLU

The common cold and flu are caused by viruses that attack the nose, sinuses and throat. This can cause a sore throat, running nose, fatigue, fever, headaches, blocked sinuses, muscle aches, and shortness of breath.

Osteopathic Treatment

Goal

To allow better function of the immune system in order for the body to heal itself.

Manual treatment

  • Soft tissue manipulation and stretching in neck and shoulders to reduce tight muscles. Tight muscles can cause congestion in blood and lymphatic fluids and prevent drainage of the sinuses and head.

  • Optimal nerve function can be encouraged by reducing the spinal joint restrictions. The nerve supply to your head and neck come from your upper back. Helping reduce the stimulation on these nerves can decrease mucous production.

  • Gentle treatment to improve sense of well-being and promote relaxation.

  • Drainage techniques to improve lymphatic and blood circulation.

  • Sinus drainage techniques to improve breathing.

Advice:

Advice will be provided on maintenance, breathing exercises and stretches, as well as methods of preventing colds and flus.
